THIS IS YOUR LIFE PACE
Saturday 12th March 2022
In 2002 PACE was created following the rebranding of the National Association of Heads of Catering (NATHOC). The NATHOC committee wanted to be a more inclusive and representative organisation to support all levels of staff within Hospitality and Catering Further Education. And so the Professional Association for Catering Education (PACE) was born and officially launched at the PACE National Conference in Manchester in 2003.
During the last twenty years members of PACE have enjoyed twenty national conferences attended by in excess of 3,000 delegates in locations, including Manchester, Birmingham, Norwich, London Docklands, Whittlebury Hall, Leeds, Blackburn, East Midlands Conference Centre, Liverpool and of course Blackpool Hilton.
A tradition of previous conferences was the annual awards, awards created and judged by the PACE Executive Directorate to recognise the amazing work done in the many colleges across the nations.
For 2022, the twentieth year, the format has changed! This year THIS IS YOUR PACE.
We would like you tell us about your work, your staff, and your students in your college in the last twenty years.
Once you complete the attached form, the entry will be judged by an independent panel made up of suppliers, sponsors, and industry experts. You can enter one or more of the categories listed on the entry form.
Good luck and remember, this is your PACE.
THE CATEGORIES
1. Former students and Industry Ambassador
SPONSOR TBA
Many colleges have had amazing students over the last twenty years who have completed a hospitality programme. Who is yours? Is it a waiter, barman, a chef or manager? Who has gone on to create an amazing industry profile? Have they had national coverage, written a book, opened an amazing venue? Have they made a difference to the sector, the world, infinity and beyond?!!!!
The judges will be looking for the most successful, accomplished person in their eyes.
2. New build or make over
SPONSOR TBA
Sadly, the days of Centres of Vocational Excellence (COVE’s) and big cash injections have gone, but some colleges are still managing to invest in their hospitality departments. We are still seeing amazing transformations and facilities, exceeding those of many hotels and restaurants.
The judges will be looking for the most impressive overall design. Judges will want to see the overall budget and images of before and after and how the use of space has improved learning and sustainability, and reduced carbon footprint.
3. Industry partnership
Who are your ambassadors? Is your department co-branded? Do you have a famous name you work with on a regular basis? What impact has this had on your overall operation.
Judges will be looking for a partnership or relationship that has had an impact on the department, has helped increased student numbers, or publicity, has resulted in increased diner numbers and job prospects for students.
4. Because we are great
Sponsor: Craft Guild of Chefs
That’s it!
Tell us ‘Why you’re great’. Consider a single event that makes you great. Don’t bore the judges with success and retention data or Ofsted grades- tell us about staff, students and your operation.
Judges will be looking for the OMG!!!
5. Teaching team
Sponsor: City and Guilds
Why are you a great team? What, or who makes you tick and rush to work each day? Why do you do this job? What keeps you infused term after term, year after year?
Judges will be looking for commitment to learning and how teaching has impacted on students, colleagues, and the college.
